We are STILL on Lockdown in Toronto….. Thankfully the weather is Gorgeous and very SUMMER!
On Wednesday I went to see my DREAM TEAM at ASTRA Medicare

to tackle my TMJ issue, I am not a big complainer – never have I been but TMJ is no fun and had been disrupting my sleep for so long during this pandemic.
As a lot of you guys know I am an empath and so I tend to focus on the pain or suffering of everybody else!
THIS IS NO LONGER THE CASE ! YAY – SELF AWARENESS – BOUNDARY SETTING AND A BETTER MINDSET!

This quote, made popular by Haruki Murakami, is an old Buddhist saying.
That’s right – This pandemic has taught me so very much about myself.

So let’s get into it!

WHAT IS TMJ
Overview
SOURCE
MAYO CLINIC
The temporomandibular (tem-puh-roe-man-DIB-u-lur) joint (TMJ) acts like a sliding hinge, connecting your jawbone to your skull. You have one joint on each side of your jaw. TMJ disorders — a type of temporomandibular disorder or TMD — can cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement.
The exact cause of a person’s TMJ disorder is often difficult to determine. Your pain may be due to a combination of factors, such as genetics, arthritis or jaw injury. Some people who have jaw pain also tend to clench or grind their teeth (bruxism), although many people habitually clench or grind their teeth and never develop TMJ disorders.
In most cases, the pain and discomfort associated with TMJ disorders is temporary and can be relieved with self-managed care or nonsurgical treatments. Surgery is typically a last resort after conservative measures have failed, but some people with TMJ disorders may benefit from surgical treatments.

BOTOX is way more than a cosmetic treatment !
It can be used for TMJ, Migraines, Excessive sweating as well!
The last time I had Botox at ASTRA was in March- You can read about my experience Here.
As their ambassador – I receive Botox every four months or so to keep me looking refreshed!

Dt. Rohit Kumar MD, FRCPC injects Botox at the Mandible Joint : the Jaw with a tiny needle. No pain obviously! I felt my jaw relax immediately and I have had 4 normal nights of sleep. I had not been sleeping well because I was clenching ALL night (bruxism).
This is a normal stress response to a NON normal time! We all carry stress in our bodies and I am not sure if it is because I am such a verbal human being- haha – but since this pandemic started, it’s affected me at the Masseter.

Perfect timing for this blog post – I had a TMJ episode just before you went for this treatment! I’m a clencher too – my dentist said that what likely how I ended up with a hairline fracture in my tooth – which he repaired a few years ago, and adjusted my bite so I stopped clenching for awhile.
